Luca Ryan-- 3-4 Months Old

So.. I missed the 3 month update. Life was a little crazy studying for the NCLEX and such..
So this is going to mainly be his 4 month post
With a lot of 3 month pictures in it as well.

I love seeing all the pictures with each other
I cant believe how big he is and how much he has changed since he was 1 month
Yet, how much he looks exactly the same too!

Okay here we go..
be prepared for a picture overload

Height/Weight
Since his appointments are only every two months
I only have his measurements for his 4 month checkup
We went in on August 20th
He weighed 14 lbs. 15 oz. (50th percentile)
25.5 inches long (75th percentile)
and his noggin-- 16.9 inches (69th percentile)

I really felt like he had put on more weight than this..
He is still climbing up the chart and not leveling off though so that's good news
I would be so sad if he wasn't growing and we had to stop breastfeeding
It seriously is my favorite {More on that later}

Diapers
We just switched over to a size 2 diaper
I feel like I have no clue what is right or wrong in determining what size to buy
I feel like he still could fit into a size 1
but according to the weight on the boxes he should be in a size 2
so I went with it.. plus.. we had a few blowouts up his back which had never happened
so it seemed like a good time

Also, just before switching to size 2 I decided I wanted to try a different brand of diaper
We used pampers when he was first born, they weren't my fav for some reason
the little tabs seemed to always pull off
so.. we switched to huggies.. Which of course we have loved
however, in comparing prices.. there were some other options for cheaper

If you know me.. there is nothing I hate more than wasting money
flowers for a holiday?? no thanks.. those puppies die in a few days and go straight in the trash
I would much rather something I could keep for awhile rather than essentially throwing $50 in the garbage

anyway.. back to diapers
I had read online that the Target brand Up&Up was pretty good
I had heard this from a few people as well
So we decided to give them a shot
I actually really didn't mind them
They seem to hold up well and all.. but one gross thing is that whenever he poops
you can see it through the diaper.. yuck.
And.. costco was having a sale on huggies.. a whole $6 off per large box
which made them the same price as the up and up diapers per diaper
so.. back to huggies I went.

Eating
This little man loves to eat, that's for sure.
He has become more sporadic on exactly when he will eat though
When he was first born it was every 2 hours to the minute practically
In the last few months he has had days where he will go every 3 hours
and days where he's back to the every 2 hours
or a mix up of a both
it's a little more difficult now to know when he will be ready to eat again
He still is only eating on one side and finishes in about 3-5 minutes
Our pediatrician gave us the okay to start baby food
He noticed that Luca was drooling a lot and said that this was a sign of being ready for baby food rather than a sign of teething at his age. He said this was a good time to start experimenting with baby food.
I was nervous for this because I always have heard to start at 6 months
But he said if Luca is also expressing interest in eating then it's a good time to start experimenting
And he definitely is interested
He watches us as we eat very intently these days
follows the food from the plate right to our mouths
It kinda makes me sad! He really wants to try it I feel like.
So I got some peas, sweet potatoes, carrots, and squash the other day
{I also always heard to start them out on rice cereal..
and that apparently isn't the case anymore either..
start with orange/yellow veggies.. things change too often!}
Anyway.. we gave him some sweet potatoes last night
He really seemed to like them..
and my that I mean.. he didn't gag at all when he ate them
and he didn't spit any out either
It was hard to tell when he was done because we just had him sitting in his bumbo and he still hasn't mastered holding his head up completely.
So I only fed him half the container. Plus.. I didn't want it to make him sick or something
since this was the first time he had ever had anything other than boob juice.

Sleeping
I really jinxed myself I think by talking about how great he was of a sleeper
now let me say first.. he still is a great sleeper at night!
I really am so so grateful that he only wakes up for 5 minutes to eat and goes back to sleep
but it was so nice when he would only wake up once or twice a night
Things have changed a bit now..
I think he either is going through a growth spurt
or we really screwed up his schedule

Brent and Tash have been in town off and on the last month and a half
and Ryan's sister Karrissa and her family just moved from Georgia
needless to say, we have been spending a lot more time over at Ry's parents lately
so.. bed time isn't so much at 9-930 anymore.
We have been getting home between 1030-midnight
He is pretty good and will sleep while one of us holds him while we are over there
but once we get home he has to eat again to go back to sleep
So I think he has gotten used to that extra feeding in there
So now even if we are home earlier, he still wakes up to eat at about that time
and even when we come home late he still wakes up every 2 hours to eat
so about 3-4 times a night. :(
It really isn't too bad.. but it does make me miss the nights when he only woke up once.
I think he was being a good kid then because he knew he had to help me out to finish nursing school
Hopefully we can get back to that sometime soon!

what is so sweet about a sleeping baby?!
I can't help but snap a billion pictures apparently..
oopsie.

nothing I love more than my two boys snuggled up together

I love how he sleeps.. with his arms above his head like me.. and with blanket right by his face or covering it like ry

he hasn't been completely sold on the space ship.. but he finally fell asleep in it one time.. and that was a win!

oh.. a selfie.. with a sweet babe

oopsie-- and another.

ninna loves baby wuca

more selfies? okay.. fine.

We put him in his crib for the first time ^ apparently on July 29th.
He did great. And It was nice because when I went to get into bed
I could turn the light on and didn't worry about being too quiet
but.. as it turns out.. I don't love our rocking chair
it's more for looks I guess.. His little feeties hit the hard arm chair when we sit in it
so..when he woke up I would have to go get him
walk all the way back to our bedroom (right next door to his)
feed him
walk him back to his room
and go back to mine.
ok.. I know.. it doesn't seem that bad
but in the middle of the night, every second counts.
so.. he is back in his pack n play right next to our bed.
that's much simpler.

 Dr. Appointments
We had his 4 month check up this month on the 20th.
He had to get three shots this time.
I decided to give him Hib along with the other ones he had already recieved
(pneumococcal and pediarix)
It was seriously the saddest thing..
I had to help hold him down and I think he thought I was the one causing the pain
I am not participating in that sort of thing next time around!!
I felt awful that he thought I was hurting him
We gave him Tylenol prior to the appointment and kept up on it that day and night
He never developed a fever, but I could definitely tell he was sad and that his legs were hurting
Any time you would touch them he would cry a lot.
I no likey seeing my baby hurt.
It makes for a sad momma!

Social
He is still such a little social guy
He loves people and hasn't ever expressed any fear of going to other people
He isn't shy to show you his cute smile
and most of the time you're lucky enough to get some sort of story or giggle out of him
The most recent way I've been able to get him to laugh is by holding him up and kissing his neck
He also is ticklish on his upper back and thinks it's pretty funny if I tickle there.
For some reason he also thinks it's really hilarious to get his diaper changed
I think his little thighs are ticklish or just the cool air or something
but it's pretty dang cute!
There really is no better sound on earth than his sweet little laugh
{Other than him sucking on his binki-- cus that's seriously my favorite too}
But the laughing-- it truly makes my heart almost burst. I can't even handle it.
How can one little guy be so perfectly sweet?!

He really is so aware of his surroundings
I feel like he definitely notices what's going on around him
He loves to face forward when you're holding him so that he can have a view of everything happening

He's a good little baby for the most part with running errands
It used to be his favorite.. I think he enjoyed getting out of the house
he would just take a nice little nap in his carseat for 90% of the time
Now... he's not quite as great at errand running
He doesn't stay asleep the whole time and I generally have to take him out and carry him with one arm while pushing the cart/stroller with the other arm
He just likes to be out of his seat and see everything!
It will be nice when he starts sitting up and I can just put him in the cart.

Likes
still obsessed with his hands
and feet
and toys
and anything else he can get into his mouth
He has pretty well mastered his little grip
anything you put in front of him he tries to grab and get to his mouth
he's typically successful in this
although sometimes the grip comes loose..
the item falls..
and tears follow.
and other times he can't let go of the item..
and it stays right shoved in his mouth
and he gets reaaaalll frustrated.

definitely still loves his baths
being in the stroller
music-- gotta love Christifori's Dream Radio on pandora :)

I can't just put one when all 4 are so cute..

and the moby wrap of course.. daddy even gave it a try

one of my favorite pictures. He's just a little turtle man lovin his moby

 We tried something new..
We went swimming for the first time (and again the next week)
I thought he was going to absolutely love this since he splashes so much in the tub and such
And he definitely didn't hate it
But he wasn't really sure what to think of it
I think it was maybe a little cold?
or just too big and he couldn't be free?
I'm not sure..
But.. he seemed to enjoy it enough
I think we will be able to sell him on it with a few more trips.

and we went on a short little swing ride at the park..

Clothes
He is still in some 0-3 month clothes
but he could definitely fit into most 3-6 month clothes.
at least the shirts.. some of the pants are still too big around the waist.. but 0-3 are too tight.. so there's still no perfect size.. those baby clothes makers really need to get their act together!
I am so sick of his smaller clothes.. I'm not sure why.. I think I'm just ready to switch things up
but most of his 3-6 month ones are long sleeve.. so we have to wait for it to get a little cooler.
Although I am sick of his smaller clothes.. I feel like I never get sick of the jammies..
I was so sad when he outgrew his newborn ones
and we tried on some 0-3 month ones the other day that were too small and it made me sad
I hate that it's the last time I will see him in them
maybe I'm a little weird
but seriously.. babies in those precious little jammies
it melts my heart

these little kitty, bear, elephant.. whatever they are.. jammies get me every time.
Also.. he looks like a who from whoville here. and I love it!

these truly are my favorite I think

wearing cousin Jack Jack's jammies

These striped onesies and the polo type one below are the few smaller clothes that I love

3-6 month onesie

how cute is this little outfit?!

one of my favs-- except that dang hood makes me crazy!

love little baby t-shirts. and love him holding onto my arm. man he's the sweetest

dressing warm to go up the canyon with cousins

Random pics

Luca absolutely loves this mirror that JJ and ninna let us have.
Even if it's all scratched up.. he doesn't mind. he loves all his little buddies around it.
for awhile it made him laugh and smile so big every time we got into the car

little scrunchy toes.. cus why not?

one day he wasn't liking anywhere I laid him.. so I was propping him up in weird spots to try and make him happy.

he mostly just thought I was cray cray

My mom's friend Ann makes these little tuxedos. How stinkin cute is that?!

reading books. He enjoyed it... for a short minute

This is his doggy, Frankie. He's bright and rainbow-ish.. just like one of our fav. Big Brother players.
and he really loves this little doggy!

Doing all he can to try to see the TV.

love them!

Luca has a lot of hair.. but in the back he just has one ring going all the way around where it's balding

hahah it's kind of hilarious

and sad

he looks like a little old man

a good note to end on.. more 4 month photos
