So I just figured out that I've kind of been doing this all wrong
I couldn't ever figure out if when I'm blogging about 8 months if I blog about the month prior..
For instance, when I did the one month post, I blogged about his first month.
So it isn't technically his one month post..
it was his 0 month post I guess.. haha
but.. I am in deep now.. so we are just going with it.
So the top picture is taken when he is actually 8 months.
buttttt the pictures that follow in the post are from the prior month..
so his seventh month... I guess..
Anyway.. here it goes!
Height/Weight
We went and had a weight check about a month ago
We were worried because Luca is such a stinker with eating so I was nervous that he wasn't gaining weight
But, we took him in and he had gone up about a pound.
So the MA didn't seem concerned about it
She said the doctor would call me if he was
But I never heard from him.. so I guess everything was fine!
1 pound didn't seem like much in 2 months. But I guess at least it's still a move in the right direction.
I think he was about 16 lbs at his 6 month check up..
so I think he was a little above 17 at this one
Nicknames
Wuca Wuca
Baby wuca
baby boy
little man (Kylie started calling him this.. and it's too cute!)
It is the cutest these days cuts he really knows his name and turns his head whenever you say it
Diapers
Still in size 3!
And we keep an eye out for when Huggies go on sale at Costco
$6 off really makes this momma happy!
Eating
We still haven't made much progress in this area, unfortunately.
We gave it a break for a while
and then decided we should try again
so we tried rice/oatmeal cereal with breast milk (I used to just mix it with water)
He seemed to like this a little better
He loves little baby puffs
but.. those things don't have any sort of calories in them
so they don't get us very far
Karrissa suggested we make something that her kids liked
it had chicken, brown rice, and a veggie of some sort that you cook in a crock pot
so we did that and then put it into ice cube trays so we could break them apart for him to eat
He likes this more than just about anything we have tried
However, he still only will take a 1-2before he is done
And when he is done (or doesn't want to try) he surely will let you know
He locks his lips.. swats his hands in front of his face so you can't get near it
We recently have tried a few different real foods
bananas, baked potatoes, peas, cooked carrots, green beans
He sort of likes all of these, but again, only a few bites.
green beans still make me nervous
the skin on them is still a little too tough for him to break down in his mouth.
He definitely prefers when he can pick stuff up and feed himself
He doesn't like us to feed him
Also.. it is the weirdest thing, but he always wants anything sweet I am eating
I have no clue how he even knows that it's good
How does he know it's not a vegetable or something?
He won't open his mouth for most anything I try to give him
But if I have a donut, ice cream, a candy bar, EL fudge cookie, or anything else sweet
You better believe he has his mouth wide open, hopeful that I will give him a little taste
And it's always with stuff that I have never given him
So I have no clue how he knows
totally baffles me
He's going to be a terrible junk food eater like his momma.. Yikes!

He kind of liked this.. for a second. I think he prefers to not have sweet/fruity baby foods.
In the high chair at grandma's
April gave me her high chair and I recovered the seat!
This has been a life saver. He loves to hang out in here while we cook, unload the dishwasher, vacuum, or anything really. I think he enjoys being up high and being able to see what's going on.
our first try in the highchair at April's house. and he loved it. so we loaded it up and brought it home :)
Sleeping
We finally figured out that his bed time of 9-9:30 was too late for him
One night I started a bed time routine at 7:45
I put him in the tub
then got him in jimmies and lotion down
got his blankie and binky
and read a few books
then fed him at about 8:15
and it was the biggest miracle
He went right to sleep
and not only that, but he didn't wake up throughout the next hour, requiring me to go back in and resoothe him to sleep.
So we tried this routine again.. and it worked
He just was too tired by 9 that he would fight going to bed.
However, he still wakes up every 2-3 hours through the night
He wakes up at about 11:30 every night, then 3 and 6
or sometimes11:30, 2, 4, and 6.. yuck.
I also got him in more of a nap routine
He wakes up at about 8:30-9
and after about 1.5-2 hours of being awake
he's had enough and is ready for a nap
so I get his binky and blankie
turn on his sound machine
read a few books
and then bounce him to sleep
His favorite songs are Old McDonald, Santa Clause is coming to town, and skidamarink,
twinkle twinkle little star, rock a bye baby
He will take about 1.5-2 hour nap in the morning..
then in the afternoon he will take another hour nap
This has been such a relief for me!
It is so nice to be able to get stuff done during the day
I think I used to keep him up during the day thinking that he wasn't tired enough
so I would just push his nap time to later and later
and then he was so sleepy he would fight it
or couldn't stay asleep
or I would just go run errands and only allow him a short nap in his car seat until something woke him up
So now he is able to get a good nap in his crib, and it has been so great for all of us!
There was a good while there where he would like to lay in our bed to fall asleep (8 months)
We could just lay in there with him and sing to him and he would fall asleep
it was really cute, but I was also nervous it was teaching him a bad habit and that he wouldn't go back to his crib..
But, I'm not sure what happened.. but there is no way he would fall asleep in our bed any more
he's way too wiggly and curious! (9 months)
He also could fall asleep out on the living room floor.
I think this only happened this one time, but possibly once more.
HE's such a good boy and would just lay awake in his bed when he wakes up and play and roll around
It was so cute to sit and watch him just happy as could be in there!
Social/Recent happenings/Likes
He's still a happy little guy all the time
He is friendly and smiles at most everyone who tries
He isn't afraid of strangers
He loves to blab and tell stories
he is a total mouth breather
loves his showers with daddy
this is something we tried because he had a fascination with running water
any time I would turn on the sink, get water out of the fridge, see his stream of pee in the tub,
or anything else.. he would jump out of my arms to try and grab it
so we gave the shower a go..
and he loves it!!
He now even loves to sit up in there and just play
it's the cutest
when he hears the shower turn on he gets so excited
and it makes me so sad when he can't get in due to time restriction or something
it really is his favorite
He seriously has become the biggest boy just recently
He has been scooting/worm crawling for a few months now
but just recently he started full on crawling
it took him long enough!
I was looking through my videos and the day he finally just up and crawled was on Dec. 27
(so.. this information is crossing into the 9 month post.. because.. i'm late posting and he's almost 9 months now)
and now, only about 2 weeks later, he is pulling up on furniture and everything
he thinks he is such a big kid!
It is so fun to see him learn and grow!
I really loved when he finally started full on crawling, and I'm not kidding, it was just over night
he all the sudden was like.. oh okay.. here I go!
He stopped crying when I left the room
he realized he could get to me if he wanted to
it was so great!
But.. it didn't last long because now he pulls up on furniture and I don't dare leave him for fear that he is just going to fall or pull something down on him
His favorite thing to try and get are any cords
of course.. cuts those are the coolest toys!
Before he figured out the crawling thing he would always do this little yoga move
(I have no clue about yoga, but alysha told me this is something)
It was really cute and also sad cuts he just wanted to figure it out, but couldn't quite coordinate everything!
He did so great with all the presents and the tree.
There were only a few times that he got ahold of the presents
and they really only caught is eye because I wrapped them with twine..
and well, he loves all things string.

He also recently learned the sign "more"
I don't think he fully understands it
but I will give him a puffy and then after he eats it sign more to him and he will do it back to me
he caught on so quick!
I never consistently did it, just kind of here and there
and then about 3 days ago I did it and he just started doing it after me
It's too cute!
and makes me want to keep teaching him things!
Also.. we had his very first hair cut on December 7
His little mohawk was getting a little out of control
so I talked Hillary into giving him a haircut
and it was way over due!
He looks so stinking cute with his new hair!
Mama
I started my new job a few weeks ago
I am working at The Cataract and Lasik Center of Utah
It is just a few blocks away from my house
and I love it!
My only wish is that I worked more often
It is very part time..
I only work a few days a month.
But it's definitely better than not working at all
I am one of the pre-op nurses
so I get people ready for their cataract surgery
go through their history, give eye drops, take vital signs, more eye drops, start an IV.
It's pretty simple. and I love simple
Plus.. it's an office job
so that means no nights, weekends, or holidays
and no 12 hour shifts!
Hooray!
I really am enjoying it!
I finally broke down and bought some FP moccs.
I have a slight obsession with these
Obviously cuts they are so stinking cute, but also I think I just love how successful Susan has become
Its all I really want... to come up with something cool and make it into a successful business
$60 is way too much for shoes, let alone baby shoes.
But she was having a warehouse sale..
and I live very close to Provo so I figured I should take advantage
so I did..
And It was so cool to be there
I still didn't really want to spend $35 on the shoes
But.. I had waited out in the cold for 35 minutes..
so I couldn't leave empty handed
worst part..
they don't even fit him.. of course.
But at least they're too big and not too small.
Daddy
Ry started back to school today
he has 2 semesters left
and he is more than ready to be finished with school
I feel bad for him because I remember all too well what it was like
getting out of bed so early to go to 12 hour clinical days and not get paid is really really rough
I am so grateful those days are over for me
and I just try to remind him that it will be over fast for him too
(I hope I am right and that it will go by fast for him!)
He also is still working part time in the Radiology Department at UVRMC
He is the best husband and daddy to take such good care of us!
I can't wait for him to be into his career and be able to just focus on only working
and not have to worry about school and everything else!
He also had another cyst removed in his hand the week before Christmas
He wanted to get it done before school started up again.
Poor guy. The doctor said his cysts are bad because of where they form
most of the time with cysts you can just cut them out or whatever
but his are always intertwined with his tendons and in a joint place
(both of which make it more painful as well)
So he has had to have them removed by surgery rather than the simpler method.
Random

Lately, he gets so so excited when he hears the turn of the key in the door

and he can hardly contain his excitement

It was so nice outside so we took a walk

I think we had one. but it didn't even stick
